September 26, 2018 Blue Group -On day 1, we got off the bus and we did this... On day one, we MOVED off the bus and into the lodge, from HMHS to Cardigan. Mr.Woolner had his car with a trailer packed with all our bags. We all crowded around and one by one, got our bags and walked up the stairs to our room. After we had settled ourselves into the rooms, it was a pretty simple hike. The bus had already MOVED away out of the distance, and we had just played Everyone is It it as an icebreaker. So, to start the day, we went to the rock next to the AMC lodge and grouped up. Then, we took a right onto a trail and walked for about 200 metres before taking another left. This was movement because there are people (us) moving from AMC. We kept to that trail for a while, sketching and learning. This is the movement of equipment from Cardigan. Next, Andy taught us about hobblebush, and what animals eat it to stay alive and what it looks like. Then, we kept hiking, sketching and learning about a cellar hole before trekking on. Andy told us about how people has once lived on the mountain, hence the cellar holes, but they had MOVED away from Cardigan. Then, as we were going around another bend, Carissa spotted a banana slug, and so Andy taught that to us too. This is also movement from Cardigan to us, in the form of ideas. We learned that banana slugs protect themselves by having a chemical (sort of) in their skin that numbs tongues when they touch it. Andy proved that to us by licking it himself. Next, we also found a quartz rock and learned about glacial erratics consequently. Finally, we arrived at the dam and learned about beavers and why they rip down bark of trees. On the way back, I spotted a monstrous leopard slug and learned how they are predators of banana slugs. This was the theme movement. It showed the movement of people (where we hiked), things (like our hiking equipment) and the movement of ideas (what we learned, like slugs and other organisms).
